Good News, and More Good News

So, the leave and trip to China went well, though I don’t think I’ve ever seen a city as large as Beijing be quite as dirty as Beijing. The Chinese have a long way to go if they want to impress anyone during the Olympics.

We got safely back to Japan on Thursday, but a two-day Internet outage stood in the way of getting caught up around here. I had plenty of work on the ship, though, so it was probably all for the best. I did have a nice note in my e-mail from the editor at Military.com telling my I will be writing for them regularly in the future, though the first column won’t go up for a few days.

I was also contacted by my detailer the day I got back to tell me I will be leaving this ship next month to go and serve as the executive officer on a destroyer. While it’s great news, it means I have to get the family and myself packed out of Japan in just four weeks – and my orders won’t be in for a week or two – so it’s work piled upon work. I’ll do what I can to keep up around here, though.

[Update] Looks like my page at Military.com has gone live.

Congratulations on the job as XO AND on getting published! That’s fantastic!

I was in Japan years ago – we couldn’t go to China back then. I spent a year in Taiwan though and absolutely LOVED it. I love their culture there (and the food!).

It is great, and it’s made even better when one considers it means going to Hawaii. Thanks.
