Pratt & Whitney PW1100G Issue on Flight Test

Pratt & Whitney experiencing minor behavior on its engine, PW1100G during flight testing. Pratt & Whitney PW1100G will be used as new Airbus A320NEO power plants.

The engine was shut down as a precaution action that might be happened. Based on engine observation, there were no significant damage and engine should be okay to be on run again in short period. This occurred during flight testing of Airbus A320NEO in the end of April 2014.

Further investigation reveals abnormal behavior on engine of the geared turbofan. Spokesman from Pratt & Whitney states that this could be happen and common in any flight test. They refuse to tell more details since this engine is not officially launch yet and its opposite to company policy.

In airport, witness from Mirabel airport tower said that the engineer of Pratt & Whitney noticed potential problem just after takeoff during flight testing. Then they decided to return directly as preventive action. Also there were no fire damage seen and visual damage appeared, he said.
