Mitsubishi MRJ Receives Pratt & Whitney Engines

5 June 2014. Mitsubishi Regional Jet now into another phase of aircraft assembling process. The power plant for Mitsubishi is reported has arrived and to installed.

Mitsubishi Regional Jet will be equipped with Pratt & Whitney PW1200G engine, gearedturbofan type. After that the power plant is plan to be assembled into the air frame in Aichi Prefecture facility.

The delivery of Pratt & Whitney PW1200G experiencing a delay. The engines should arrived in late April 2014, but then delayed into June 2014. There is some agreement issue between Mitsubishi and Pratt&Whitney, then impact to the schedule. The spokesman of Mitsubishi said that the delay will not affect the schedule for first flight in second quarter 2015. 

Mitsubishi has launched the MRJ's ground test, static strength tests for airworthiness reason in last May 2014. With delivery of the engines, the final assembly process with complete components will shift the aircraft's timeline completion. Flight test become to be more coherent and real.

Pratt & Whitney PW1200G is a new generation of power plant era in Pratt & Whitney products. PurePower tagline has give different perspective of the engine. The PW1200G, geared turbofan engine can produce about 17,000 lbf (76 kN) of thrust with 9:1 bypass ratio. Pratt & Whitney said that PW1200G has completed more than 9,000 cycles testing and 3,000 operating hours, moreover the engines are claimed to be lower emissions and noise.
